LOOT: A New Branch in Amsterdam's Avant-Garde Piano TraditionLOOT, a quartet with a name as angular as its music, represents a fresh offshoot in the lineage of Amsterdam's avant-garde piano scene. Led by pianist Oscar Jan Hoogland, LOOT features Ab Baars on tenor sax and clarinet, Uldis Vitols on bass, and Onno Govaert on drums.
After two decades at the forefront of Amsterdam's improv scene, Hoogland now unveils his first full-length album of original compositions. Released on the renowned ICP label with cover art by Han Bennink, the album pays homage to the avant-garde piano traditions of Thelonious Monk and Misha Mengelberg.
LOOT's music is a delicate balance of complexity and directness, designed to both challenge and delight the listener. The evening will commence with a duo performance by Hoogland and the legendary Han Bennink, offering a taste of Amsterdam's ever-evolving improvised music scene.
