The legends of South African jazz influence this pianist and 'Blue Note recording artist'.

A Fusion of Ritual Music, Jazz, and Gospel

Nduduzo Makhathini, a pianist with roots in South Africa's east coast, brings a unique blend of musical traditions to the stage. Influenced by his grandmother's healing songs and the rich heritage of Zulu warriors, Makhathini's music is a powerful fusion of ritual sounds, jazz, and gospel.

His style pays homage to South African jazz legends like Bheki Mseleku, Moses Molelekwa, and Abdullah Ibrahim, while carving out his own distinctive voice. Makhathini's international breakthrough came with his Blue Note debut album, earning critical acclaim and spots on numerous 'Best of' lists.

For this performance, Makhathini is joined by Zwelakhe Bell Le Pere on double bass and Francisco Mela on drums, recreating the trio from his latest Blue Note release, uNomkhubulwane - a three-part suite dedicated to the Zulu goddess.
